Which trees lack water, which are weakening, and where and which species are best to plant—all of this can now be determined using data. This approach is already widely used in various countries around the world.
Innovative solutions were discussed at a meeting at the Almaty City Development Center. Peter Cull, Director of the Australian company ICT International, participated in the meeting. The organization has been working in the field of environmental monitoring for many years. During the meeting, approaches to monitoring the condition of urban greenery were presented. Special sensors measure soil moisture, temperature, air quality, and even sap flow within trees. The collected data is analyzed and becomes the basis for accurate management decisions.
These technologies significantly increase tree survival and reduce water consumption. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue developing the project and consider the possibility of its pilot implementation.
Green spaces are an integral part of Almaty's natural landscape. For many years, the city has been associated with this very image, creating a comfortable environment for residents and visitors. Therefore, the task of the Akimat and the City Development Center today is not only to maintain this balance, but also to take it to the next level: to develop a culture of greening, improve the quality of care, and make data-driven decisions.
