The lecture was delivered by Ruslan Berdenov, Chairman of the Board of the Almaty City Development Center. During the meeting, he discussed the Center's work, approaches to developing urban projects, and the socioeconomic impact of strategic initiatives.
The Almaty City Development Center operates as a Think Tank for local governments. The organization identifies long-term development directions for the metropolis and formulates proposals based on data and analytics. A unified system considers traffic flows, population growth, the burden on utility infrastructure, tourism potential, and development opportunities for urban areas.
The Situation Center, the Analytical Center, and project teams participate in this work. On this basis, strategic projects are developed that meet the city's real needs.
For example, SkyTrain and LRT are aimed at developing the public transportation system and reducing traffic congestion. Polycenters will distribute business activity across several districts and create new public spaces. The Almaty mountain cluster is expected to become a driver of tourism development, the service economy, and new jobs.
According to Ruslan Berdenov, the goal of strategic projects is to form the basis for the long-term sustainable development of the city and improve the quality of life of its residents.
