Second Urban Eco-Hub Opens at Satbayev University in Almaty

08.06.2026

The second urban Eco-Hub has officially opened at Satbayev University in Almaty. The new facility is designed to promote waste separation, environmental education, and community engagement in sustainable practices.

The Eco-Hub will serve as a platform where students, faculty members, and city residents can not only bring recyclable materials but also learn more about responsible consumption, waste management, and environmental stewardship. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, educational events, volunteer initiatives, and other activities aimed at fostering a greener and more sustainable city.

One of the key features of the Eco-Hub is its focus on the principles of the circular economy. The center will demonstrate how plastic waste can be transformed into useful products through recycling and upcycling processes. Recycled plastic collected at the facility will be used to create items such as phone stands, keychains, chess sets, clocks, and other practical products.

The new Eco-Hub is expected to strengthen environmental awareness among young people and encourage the adoption of sustainable habits within the local community. Through hands-on learning and interactive activities, visitors will gain a better understanding of the importance of waste reduction, recycling, and responsible resource use.

The initiative also contributes to the development of a more efficient urban waste management system by increasing recycling rates and reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills. By creating accessible environmental education spaces, the city continues to support its long-term sustainability goals and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

The Eco-Hub will operate on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Depending on public demand, the center may also expand its operating hours to include weekends.

The expansion of the Eco-Hub network is part of Almaty’s broader efforts to promote environmental awareness, support community-driven sustainability initiatives, and encourage active participation in waste reduction and recycling programs.
