Kok-Tobe Health Trail Reopens After Renovation
One of Almaty’s popular walking routes, the Kok-Tobe Health Trail, has reopened following renovation. The upgraded route offers residents and visitors an opportunity to walk up to Kok-Tobe, spend time outdoors and enjoy panoramic views of Almaty.
The trail is 1.2 kilometres long. As part of the renovation, the pedestrian surface was renewed, the surrounding area was improved, and extensive landscaping was carried out.
As a result, the route has become a more comfortable, safe and attractive space for walking and outdoor recreation.
A new option for walking up to Kok-Tobe
The Health Trail provides an alternative route for residents and visitors who enjoy an active lifestyle and prefer to reach Kok-Tobe on foot.
Along the 1.2-kilometre route, visitors can enjoy views of the city while gradually moving from the urban environment into the natural landscape of the foothills.
Walking routes of this kind create additional opportunities for incorporating physical activity and outdoor recreation into everyday life. For tourists, the Health Trail can also offer another way to experience Almaty and see the city from a different perspective.
A lavender field and more than 20 plant species
Particular attention was given to landscaping during the renovation.
A lavender field has been created along the route, with more than 20 plant species planted throughout the area. The new landscaping complements Kok-Tobe’s natural surroundings and makes the walking route even more attractive.
The variety of plants not only enhances the appearance of the area but also helps create a green space that blends naturally with the foothill landscape.
A more comfortable and safer pedestrian route
One of the key objectives of the project was to make the route more comfortable for visitors.
The renewed pedestrian surface is designed to make walking along the trail safer and more convenient. Following the comprehensive improvements and landscaping, the Health Trail now serves not only as a route to Kok-Tobe but also as a recreational space in its own right.
Residents and visitors can walk, enjoy outdoor activities and take in panoramic views of Almaty along the route.
Developing Almaty’s walking and recreational routes
The renovation of the Health Trail expands opportunities for walking, active recreation and access to nature within the urban environment.
Almaty’s unique foothill location provides significant potential for developing such routes both within the city and in its immediate surroundings. Pedestrian infrastructure makes it possible for residents to combine physical activity with time in nature without having to travel far beyond the city.
The renovated 1.2-kilometre Health Trail is now not only a walking route to Kok-Tobe but also part of Almaty’s network of green and recreational spaces.
The renewed trail, landscaped surroundings, lavender field and panoramic views of Almaty make the Kok-Tobe Health Trail an attractive destination for walking and outdoor recreation in the city.
