A time capsule-laying ceremony was held in Almaty to mark the construction of a modern waste processing plant with electricity generation. The event was attended by Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy, Chairman of Junxin Environmental Protection Dai Daoguo, and representatives of government agencies, businesses, and the public.

Also attending the ceremony were Chairman of the Board of JSC Almaty City Development Center Yevgeny Berdenov and Head of the Green Almaty project office Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov.

The project is being implemented in accordance with the Head of State's instructions to improve the environmental situation and develop environmental infrastructure, as well as the «Taza Kazakhstan» program.

This project is of strategic importance for Almaty. Population growth, urban infrastructure development, and increasing waste generation require modern waste management solutions. The new plant will reduce solid waste disposal, increase recycling rates, and integrate secondary resources into economic circulation.

The plant's capacity will be approximately 2,000 tons of waste processed per day, generating up to 60 MW of electricity. This will simultaneously address environmental issues and contribute to improving the sustainability of the city's energy system.

As part of the Green Almaty project office, the CRA supports and promotes initiatives aimed at improving the environmental situation, implementing sustainable development principles, and modern approaches to waste management. The implementation of the new plant will be an important step in the development of the city's environmental infrastructure.

The project is being implemented using international technologies and is in line with global trends in the transition to a circular economy, where waste is viewed as a resource for generating energy and new materials.

Similar plants are successfully operating in cities such as Singapore, Copenhagen, and Tokyo, forming part of a comprehensive environmental management system for megacities.

The project is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of the waste management system, reduce the environmental impact, and contribute to achieving Almaty's sustainable development goals.
